Death Valley Century and Double Century
October 30, 2004: Report and Results

Classic Southern Route to Shoshone and Back, then to Stove Pipe Wells and Back

Spectacular weather rewarded the 257 participants in the Fall Death Valley Century and Double Century, held October 30, 2004. The 75 degree, mostly windless day was in sharp contrast with the thermonuclear windstorm of two weeks prior during Furnace Creek 508! Of the 145 DC riders, 116 finished and 29 DNF'd, a typical DNF rate on this route where it's easy to "call it a day" at mile 150, which is also the start/finish line in Furnace Creek. As further testimony to the popularity of this event, entrants came from CA, NV, NY, NM, AZ, RI, CO, OR, OK, IL, MA, OH, MN, MD, PA, BC, Canada, and Italy!

"Hi Just got back from the dv century Furnace Creek. I would like to give kudos to your man MIKE ANGELOS. At the bottom of the downhill, my rear cassette came apart. I was ready to put my thumb out and call it a day when Mike came by in the sag van, stopped, and in a few minutes had me back on the road. I went on to post my personal best century time!!
