Ridge Route 400km Brevet Report

We had an absolute blast at this unique event over the weekend, held May 4-5. The course was a three loop cloverleaf based out of Valencia. Riders had the option of doing one, two, or three loops. We had a lowland option for loop two, as well.

Loop One was 88 miles with 7400' of climbing. This included the incredible "Ridge Route"—18 miles of abandoned roadway up and over the Grapevine, high above I-5. The views were beyond spectacular and everybody raved! The Loop Two highland option was an epic trip up Tujunga Canyon to the back side of Mt. Wilson, then down Upper Big Tujunga to Soledad Canyon and back to Valencia. This was 103 miles with 8000' of elevation gain. The lowland option of loop two cruised down to Santa Paula and Ventura, turning around at the beach and heading back to Valencia with a comfy 1500' of elevation gain. Finally, those wanting the full experience headed up Bouquet Canyon to Leona Valley and then back down San Francisquito Canyon to Valencia, a 58 mile loop in the dark with 3600' of elevation gain.

Five riders finished the first loop AND the 103 mile second loop:

*Sam Seal Beal took a wrong turn and accidentally short-cutted the third loop, so he was credited with just two loops.

Nine riders finished the first AND second AND third loops!
