It's not all about the bike!

One of the best ways to become a better cyclist, and fitter, happier, healthier human being, is to get off the bike and cross-train. The winter "off season" is a particularly good time to expand one's athletic repertoire. We absolutely love Mt. Shasta and we also love cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating. To be honest, one of your CORPScamp hosts grew up doing all three of these sports, but your other host only learned to X-C ski and ice skate last winter. So leave the bike at home and meet us at magical Mt. Shasta for a winter sports extravaganza!

CORPScamp Concept:
• Cycling cross-training at its absolute best!
• One-of-a-kind, wondrous locations!
• Rejuvenate, relax, recharge!
• Personal attention or solitude: As much as you want!
• Sportive Lifestyle: Learn, get fit, socialize, explore!

CORPScamp features one or two specified winter sports outings each day led by two or more guides. Everyone is free to participate at their own pace; most routes feature various distance options, too. Each afternoon at our CORPScamps features "The Yoga Social" with a rejuvenating CORPSyoga class taught by a fellow cyclist, Elizabeth Jefferson, who was trained at the world renowned White Lotus Foundation and holds a Yoga Alliance RYT 200 instructor certification, not to mention a Ph.D. in chemistry. CORPSyoga is designed for all camp participants, regardless of yoga background, or lack thereof, and is designed to help each camper unwind, accelerate recovery for the next day's adventure, minimize the chance of injury, and rejuvenate and restore energy balance. Social time before and after the actual yoga class gives everyone a chance to swap stories while enjoying herbal tea by Joshua Tree Products and/or Hammer Nutrition Recoverite. The camp also includes two group dinners. Every activity is optional, though; campers are free to "check out any time you like" if they want a break, extra rest, or private time.

Please understand that CORPScamp Shasta Snofari is designed as a multi-day lifestyle adventure - five days of fantastic winter sports outdoor adventure in an otherworldly place - and the camp is only as difficult as YOU want it to be. We're not timing everyone and we're not keeping score, so please don't be put off by the name - CORPScamp is only as hard core as you want to make it! If you love the outdoor world and want to enjoy some fantastic winter sports activities, while getting away from it all and enjoying the company of fellow athlete-adventurers, then you will enjoy CORPScamp Shasta Snofari!

What

Join us at Mt. Shasta, the magical, mystical mountain which stands serenely near the top of California, for a five day winter sports retreat. This glacier-laden volcanic peak provides the backdrop for superb cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and yoga in a gorgeous, alpine region with dramatic lakes, rivers, forests, and memorable trails and routes. You can drive there easily from NorCal or Oregon, or fly in via Redding or Sacramento. Shasta is a bit remote, but that helps protect its quiet, wondrous setting. Mt. Shasta's special appeal will draw you back again and again.

Host Hotels

CORPScamp Shasta Snofari will be based at two nice sister hotels which are located across the street from each other in quiet, quaint downtown Mt. Shasta. These are the Strawberry Valley Inn and the Woodsman Hotel Cabins and Lodge. CORPSCampers are responsible for making their own hotel reservations directly with either property. We will also be happy to match up would-be roommates, so email us if you have a room you'd llike to share and we'll circulate your offer with the other CORPScampsers.

The two properties have a limited number of rooms available at the special CORPScamp rate. The reservation code and information will be provided to each CORPScamp participant when they register for the camp (not posted here, so that only CORPScampers can use it). Do not delay in making your room reservations as our rooms will be released to the general public at least 30 days befor the camp!

Daily Schedule

To Be Anounced Soon!
Basically, we'll cross-country ski, snowshoe and/or ice skate every day, plus enjoy the Dynamic Warm Up each morning and the "Yoga Social" each afternoon.

Pre- and Post-Exercise: Each morning, we will do a five minute "Ron Jones' Dynamic Warm-Up", then we will depart on our excursion(s). (This is done while standing, so no towels or props are needed.) Each afternoon we'll enjoy and benefit from "The Yoga Social" - a nice CORPSyoga class followed by quality chit-chat time on the lawn. Bring a yoga mat or big beach towel for the afternoon.

Weather and What to Bring

In January, the average low temperature is 26, while the average high is 44, with a monthly average of 7.1 inches of rain. In other words, perfect active winter sports weather is predicted! Click here for the current weather in Mt. Shasta and click here for detailed weather data for the region.

For winter sports, CORPScampers should come prepared for any possible weather pattern or contingency. At the very least, all participants should bring a variety of items which we will list here shortly, plus personal and medical identification, cell phone, money, credit card, and a good attitude. We also recommend a yoga mat for the afternoon "Yoga Social" class.

Fueling

We highly recommend the fueling, hydration, and supplement products from Hammer Nutrition. Prepare yourself a "four hour bottle"* of Perpetuem, Sustained Energy, and/or HEED each day, bring along a flask of Hammer Gel and a container of Endurolytes and Anti-Fatigue Caps, and all you''l need is more water as your day unfolds out there. It's a simple but extremely effective way to sustain yourself for long days in the saddle.

*My "four hour bottle" includes four scoops of Perpetuem and four scoops of HEED. This provides 920 extremely tasty calories, including 24 grams of protein, eight grams of fat, and a nice selection of electrolytes and more, not to mention lots of great, long-lasting carbo energy. I drink this mix slowly (hence the name, "four hour bottle") and drink plain water at the same time (about one bottle an hour).
